Rising through the ranks of the Forest Service as history's first black female forester, Melody Starya Mobley’s story could be seen as a remarkable example of systemic success. However, behind the walls of this proud institution, she suffered years of abuse, oppression, and tokenism that catapulted her into a lifetime of moral courage. After 28 years serving our public lands, followed by a decade of recovery, Melody emerges from the ashes of trauma to rediscover her voice and challenge the narrative of environmentalism to become more inclusive. Starya is an original feature-length docu-drama that is being supported by private funding and non-profit partnerships. The sale of this concept to a distributor is pending. My life has dramatically changed in the most positive way since I met Camden and Spencer Miller. The rich story of my life as the first Black female professional forester was being left out of history. These young White men and I have a synergy and passion about this project that rarely exists. Simply said, I love them and I trust them completely.
